We're based at 401 Wilshire Blvd, and most of our calls come from right around Santa Monica itself - Downtown, a mile up the road, North of Montana two miles north, Mid-City and Sunset Park a couple miles east, Riviera three miles north, Brentwood four miles northeast, and Pacific Palisades four miles northwest.
We also quote jobs further out: Marina del Rey at four miles, Culver City at six, Beverly Hills at seven, Ladera Heights at seven, El Segundo at eight, Topanga and West Hollywood at nine, and out toward Tarzana at twelve miles northwest. A lot of the housing stock across this area was built between 1947 and 2012, with the bulk of it going up in the 1960s and 70s. That matters for a quote because a door and opener installed on a house from that era is often original hardware - torsion springs and track sized to specs nobody stocks anymore. We ask about the age of the house for exactly this reason.

How old is the typical garage door you work on in Santa Monica?
Most of the housing in this service area dates from 1947 to 2012, with a lot of it concentrated in the 1960s and 70s. That means a good share of the doors we see are original or close to it, on hardware sized differently than what's sold new - which is part of why we carry a range of torsion spring sizes on the truck.
Do you charge more for older houses?
Not automatically. Cost depends on the part needed and whether it's a common size or an older nonstandard one. A 1960s-era door with standard torsion hardware can be a routine job. One with an odd panel width or a discontinued part takes longer to source, and we tell you that before starting, not after.
Is it worth repairing a door instead of replacing it?
Usually, yes, if the problem is a spring, cable, roller, or opener - those are wear parts and normal to fix. Replacement makes more sense when the panel itself is damaged or the track is bent badly enough that it keeps chewing through new rollers every few months.
